Venue: Your place of work

A pottery painting session in the workplace is a brilliant way to bring your team together, and best of all there’s no experience needed.

It is a chance for everyone to relax, connect, and see each other in a new light. Conversations flow easily, teamwork feels natural, and colleagues discover sides of each other that don’t usually surface at work. As well as being a great team-building activity, it is a unique way to celebrate milestones, seasonal events, or achievements.

Each person will get to design and decorate a personalised item that, once fired, they can take home or display in the office as a lasting reminder of the experience.

If your offices are in the general Reading-Oxford area, we can bring the party to you, with plates, ready-made mugs, tiles, or other pre-arranged bisqueware items of your choice.

Advise your party:

Tell your group that while the glazes do wash off, it’s a good idea to wear comfortable clothes that they aren’t too precious about.

Suggest that they come along with some design ideas in mind. If they don’t have any, that’s fine – we will be here for guidance, and there will be plenty of examples for inspiration.

On the day

One or both of us will drive to you, arriving approximately 40 mins before the session begins to get everything set up. We will bring table coverings and all the equipment. (You will need to provide your own refreshments.)

The session will start with introductions and explanations before each person chooses their piece of pre-made pottery to decorate.

Your group will spend a happy couple of hours absorbed in planning and decorating. You can draw or sketch your designs onto your item before starting on the painting, or dive right in with the underglazes.

You will be individually guided throughout the process, from choosing your theme or pattern and colour scheme to sketching this onto your bisqueware item, and decorating with the underglaze paints.

Afterwards

We will take the dried items away and coat them with a transparent overglaze. They will then be fired in a kiln heated to 1220C. The firing process will deepen and brighten the colours, fusing them into the clay and making the items strong and water resistant.

We will deliver the finished products to your offices approximately 10 working days after the event.

We do our utmost to make sure your experience is comfortable and enjoyable. However, the final part of this journey involves the glazing and firing of your pottery which, unfortunately, is not an exact science. Kilns, glazes and materials can be unpredictable.

Your brushwork and colours mightn’t turn out the way you envisage.

What’s more, perfection in firing is not always possible. Glaze spotting can occur as well as things like brick dust on the items. This is the charm but also the frustration of working with ceramics.

In the exceptional event of your pottery breaking or cracking in the kiln, we will offer a £30 refund on that piece, or a replacement voucher in lieu.

Materials & Skin Sensitivities

All ceramics and painting materials will be provided on the assumption that there are no allergies to these materials. Equipment and materials used during the event are at the client organiser’s own risk.

Paints, glazes, ceramics, brushes, and other materials are provided for creative use. While labelled non-toxic where applicable, they may still cause irritation, allergic reactions, or staining.

Participants are encouraged to wear aprons and gloves if they have sensitive skin or known allergies.

By taking part, each participant accepts that they are responsible for their own interactions with materials and that the organisers are not liable for any allergic reactions, sensitivities, or damages to clothing or belongings.

If anyone in your party has a disability, including being a wheelchair user, please let us know in advance so we can best cater for their needs.

Let’s keep the session safe, fun, and inspiring for everyone!
